Eduardo Gomez, is a Mayan firekeeper and has served as a mayan ajq’ijab’ (priest/shaman) for 13 years. He is a member of the Gran Confederacion de Consejos Principales Ajq’ijab’, and member of the Consejo y Comision de Los Lugares Sagrados Sitios Arqueologicos. He trained in Mayan traditional healing and medicine in Peten, Guatemala and later became responsible for the initial training of others.
Eduardo served for many years as president of the Toronto based, Consejo Sac-Be (Maya), which follows the culture and ancient ways of the Maya, as well as engaging in Toronto‚Äôs Latin American and First Nation Communities as an artist, community leader, and healer.
A professional actor, director and dancer, he cofounded and served as co-artistic director of The Fifth SunTheatre Company, a theatre company dedicated to bringing mesoamerican myths and cultural traditions to stage. Eduardo has facilitated workshops and festivals in Mexico, Guatemala and Canada in theatre, native dance, and folk art, and led over fifty artist residencies in Ontario and Quebec teaching mesoamerican culture through theatre, dance, ritual, mask and puppetry.
Eduardo recently founded the Mesoamerican Centre for Spiritual and Healing Practices, and divides his time between Canada, and his native land Mexico..
